What time is it ? { Maxi Time }

25 April 2013

It's that time of the year again the sun is out , heat is on and coats are stored away till October. So whip out them maxi skirts and enjoy the breeze. You can never have too many skirts especially maxi skirts. They can be worn to work and easily transition to dinner/ drinks. If you're "ballin' on a budget" you can always head to your local thrift store and snatch one up for less than $5. I picked up this polka dot skirt last year at the Goodwill for $5, after a quick wash you have yourself an on trend item for less than $10. Sometimes I prefer to buy my clothes at the thrift store simply because they are one of a kind pieces. You won't have to worry about some other girl wearing the same pattern dress/skirt as you. Believe it or not this has happen to me , I was out to dinner with my husband a few years ago I was wearing a dress from the Gap and low and behold in walks a girl wearing the same dress. I understand I'm not the only person who shops however when this happen all I wanted to do was rip the dress off and burn it. After dinner we went home and I never wore this dress again, now it sits in someone else's closet.

You might remember this top from my last DIY ever since I jazzed it up I can't stop wearng it. It was my go to top this weekend whether it was paired with these "husband" jeans or my everyday sweats.
Your eyes didn't fool you either those are fancy socks i'm wearing. This season I will be all about fancy socks , so stick around you'll see more of them around here.

DIY

19 September 2012

Since we are homeless and cooped up in a hotel , Sunday night I decided to DIY. I found this polka dot button up at my local Goodwill. I wanted to jazz it up a little so I chose to replace buttons. These gold buttons gave this top the right amount of sparkle it needed. Very important when thrifting you may not always find the perfect item some may need alterations or to be jazzed. Now let's see what DC thrift stores have in store for me.

The weekend that was...

13 August 2012

Our local grocery store Winn Dixie has a huge selection of beer and they allow you to make your own 6 pack.

Thrifted this great polka dot button up for only $1.95 - LOVE

Since our weeks here in the South are dwendling down we are taking in all the great food and fun sights. Saturday I woke up with an idea either I dreamed it or it just came to me at 8:30 am I can't remember which one however needless to say I am excited about it. What's the idea? Since my husband is in the military and we obviously have moved around some and will continue to move around for the next 11 years. I've decided to drive around my current city and take pictures of everything that I see everyday. My hope is to combine all these photos into a book .{not published obviously} A book that we can look back at and remember the city we lived in from 2007-2012. My camera will get over used i'm sure but we'll finally see what this Canon DSLR is made of .
How was your weekend?

Little Pattern Dress

21 March 2012

Dress : Forever 21 | Jewelry : Banana Republic | Shoes : BCBG
Clutch : Coach | Belt : Thrifted | Glasses : Warby Parker

This dress has everything I look for pattern, pockets and a collar…Not to mention the fabric is super soft.  It’s perfect for any occasion whether it’s pairing it with tights and a blazer for work or dinner with your significant other. LBD is always a must need in your wardrobe and now I’m adding LPD {Little Pattern Dress}.

At my 8-5 one thing you will always find me wearing is a blazer. However as most of you who keep up with me know I’m a sucker for color.  My blazers consist of polka dots, bright reds/blues/pink and the occasional black. I wore this outfit last Thursday and as we all huddled around for a quick meeting I couldn't help but look around at all the two piece black suits that surrounded this 5 ft. 2 in four eyed fire cracker. Lol. Clearly I’m a girl that really doesn't have to say much, my outfit and my 5.0 walk is all people need to know. When it comes to your work attire don't settle for just the bare minimum go bold. Blazers can feel a bit restricting at times however with a fun color or pattern your restriction will become your beach towel.

Hello Monday. This month the weather has changed from one minute to the next. I am really OCD with my car as far as keeping it clean and clutter free. Since the weather change my back seat is currently my coat closet with my rain coat, jacket, North Face fleece and now headwraps. Headwraps are my current crush. They come in handy when it's 30 mph winds out, so there great for keeping your doo from flying all over the place. I know they've been around the block and back about a zillion times but I have jumped on the wagon and will be riding this till the end.
About this belt... last year I visited Omaha for my beasties wedding and I did a little shopping downtown Omaha. Downtown was super cute filled with cobble stone sidewalks and tons of outdoor eateries. I stumbled upon a small thrift store (I can't remember the name) and in it I found this wonderful belt. At first I couldn't figure out what I could possibly wear with it but my impulse gut said "buy it , you fool." Today is this belts first day of life and I can't wait to wear it again.

Wrap it up

jeans/wedges : Target | top/headwrap: Forever 21 | handbag: vintage
watch : Micheal Kors | glasses : Warby Parker (Huxleys)

I am always searching for a good pair of jeans,  I hate jeans that fit perfect in the morning and by 2pm they are two sizes too big. I came across these jeans on my Friday night Target run they were on sale for $15.99 and I figured why not. Well these pass the test they are PERFECT they kept their fit all day from 7am -7pm.

Now lets address my obsession of the month - the headwrap. Since it's been so windy in my neck of the woods I need something to tame my hairdo and this is perfect. And not too mention it's a great POC (pop of color) to any outfit.

PS. Make sure you check out my Band of the Week if you're looking for some good jams.

I thrifted and scored... guest post

08 February 2012

Happy Thursday ! As a huge thrift shopper I know just how difficult finding that one perfect item can be, I recently began a section on my blog called 'I thrifted and scored..' dedicated to all the great finds I have come across. My friend Simmi over at Café La Moda  put together some helpful tips on scoring that perfect thrift buy.

Top Five Tips for ‘Thrifting and Scoring’

We at Café La Moda were really rather taken with Myrna’s my new 'I thrifted and scored’ section. There’s nothing better than finding a bargain in a thrift shop and modeling it as part of a new outfit the following week. But it takes a little bit of practice to really make the most of this kind of shopping – it’s not as easy as a wander round Forever21 or a mooch round the mall. Here are some top tips we think might help in ‘thrifting and scoring’.
One. Take your time. Shopping in thrift shops is not like your normal store, you will need to rummage. Some of the best finds I have in my wardrobe are items I have found right at the end of my trip or on a second look round.
Two. Think outside your fashion box. Clothing from thrift stores generally needs a lot more creative thinking on exactly how you would wear it and with what. Get your creative juices flowing and be prepared to clash styles.
Three. Give and receive. If you’re going to fill your wardrobe with thrifty finds then I think it makes sense to give back. After all many of these stores rely on donations to keep going. So every now and again have a clear out and take any unwanted items along.
Four. Think about timing. Generally speaking people donate at weekends so head down for a rummage on a Monday or Tuesday for the best bargains. And while we’re on the subject, think seasonally too. People are a lot more likely to donate a winter coat in summer and floral shorts in winter so shop out of season and be prepared to squirrel your finds away for a while.
Five. Generally speaking it’s best to mix and match thrift shop items with newer ones. A whole thrifty look is hard to pull off, but one item teamed with this season’s jeans, trousers or skirt will look great.

I Thrifted and scored ...

31 January 2012

This past weekend the mister and I spontaneously decided to make a trip home to Texas. Saturday afternoon my Mom and I went thrifting and as I was beginning to lose steam, I glanced over and saw these two fuzzy guys all alone waiting to be purchased. I'm usually not into faux fur however, looking at the price tag on these two the fashion gods would have slapped me silly if I would have left without buying them. So now I just hope that it snows in the south.

Sweater : Goodwill | Pants : Banana Republic | Belt : F21| Clutch : JCrew | Shoes : Tinley Road (similar)

Remember me telling you (here)  about the fabulous cashmere sweaters I found at my local Goodwill? Here's sweater #2 . I love it , the vibrant blue is so fun. I've only had this sweater a couple of weeks and it is already on repeat with my daily wardrobe. These cute wedges were introduced to me by my blogger buddy Khatu over at i am Khatu - my current blog crush she has a stunning wardrobe and not to mention she's not bad on the eyes, we both share a love for color and JCrew- Crew Cuts.
